- The combination of these ink cartridges and HP papers and films provides superior print quality, short drying times, and vibrant color quality. Other ink systems and printheads do not work in this printer.
- Expect to print approximately 20 A0/E-sized prints when printing on coated paper.
- Maximum ink in each cartridge is about 42 ml.
- HP cannot guarantee optimum print quality after the date printed on the print cartridge.
- HP does not recommend using refilled print cartridges in HP Inkjet printers.
Memory
Standard | 4 MB |
Maximum | 36 MB |
The memory capacity of the HP Designjet 400 series printer is 36 MB. Four (4) MB of memory are built-in RAM on the main board. The remainder is available through one SIMM (single inline memory module) slot that can take either a 4 MB, 8 MB, 16 MB, or 32 MB SIMM card. The second SIMM socket is intended for code upgrades.
The HP Designjet 400 series printer is shipped with 4 MB of RAM on the main board as standard. Available memory is reduced by approximately 2 MB of “overhead” requirements; for example, stack space, the I/O buffer, and variable storage. A rough estimate of the ratio of user-to-DJ400 file storage is 0.8/1. File expansion in the HP Designjet 400 series printer buffer depends largely on file content. Labels, polygons, line widths greater than 1 mm, and raster data are examples of memory-eaters.
When receiving a print, the HP Designjet 400 series printer stores all the vector data and raster data in the memory buffer. If the buffer is full, remaining vector data is read in and discarded. If sending all raster data, the buffer is filled, then printed; plotting continues in this way until the print is complete.
note:
The 4 MB and 8 MB memory SIMM’s are no longer available for the 450C printer. Available memory SIMM’s for the 450C printer are listed below.
16MB, 70nS, 36-bit SIMM memory module – (D2297A)
32MB, 70nS, 36-bit parity SIMM memory module – (D3578A)

note:
Part numbers are subject to change. If searching for a specific part is unsuccessful, try searching for the printer or printer model (i.e Designjet 450c, C4715A). Doing so will generally provide navigation to all available parts for that product.
